OWN – Oprah Winfrey Network
Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) is an American specialty television channel jointly owned by Discovery, Inc. and Harpo Studios. It debuted on January 1, 2011, in approximately 80 million homes, replacing the Discovery Health Channel. The network is led by Oprah Winfrey and largely features non-scripted lifestyle programming, as well as scripted drama and sitcom programming, and reruns of talk programming from the Harpo Studios library. Much of its original programming is targeted towards African American audiences. Initially, a 50/50 joint venture, Discovery acquired a larger stake in the network in 2017 (although Harpo remains a “significant” minority stakeholder, and Winfrey is contracted with the channel through at least 2025).
As of February 2015, OWN is available to approximately 81.9 million pay television households (70.3% of households with television) in the United States.
Own Moves to Los Angeles
The headquarters for Oprah Winfrey’s television network is now settled into a new office building in West Hollywood called Formosa South.
The Oprah Winfrey Network, now based in Los Angeles, plans to move into its new headquarters at the end of the year, the network said in a statement.
The move will give OWN access to studios, a perk it doesn’t have in its current digs at Wilshire Courtyard, an office complex at 5700 Wilshire Boulevard.
Formosa South is a new office building at the Lot, the current name for the former Warner Hollywood Studios on Santa Monica Boulevard between Formosa Avenue and Poinsettia Place.
OWN is now the home of some of the most entertaining and most-watched shows in television history.
